Chapter 6- Chris met Ron, an 80 year old man, down by the Salton City. Chris left emotional information for Ron to drop things and go live life how he should. Ron was waiting to hear back from Chris, but when he saw that he had died, he drops his church and religion to become an aethiest because he couldn't understand why God would take such a great mans life away.

Chapter 7-Chris goes back to Waynes farm and met Waynes girlfriend and his mom. They talk about Chris's personal life such as family issues with his father, and about his sexual life, talking about how he doesn't like to get into relationships unless he's certain she is the right person.

Chapter 8- Krakauer compares John Waterman, Gene Rosselini, and Carl McNunn. John had liked climbing mountains and was know as "fearless". In 1978, John climbed Mt. Hunter alone. After that, he ran for a possition on the Schol board and promoted unrestricted sex and the legalization of halucigantion drugs. Carl was a 35 year old photographer and wanted to take pictures of the wild. He took a .22 Caliber rife and a shotgun, but would eventually become reckless and throw away some ammo that he would late be in dire need of. Lastly was Gene, who was well educated in anthro, history, philosphy, and linguistics, but never wanted a degree. He wanted to walk around the world so he made a plan to travel 18 miles a day. He later killed himself by stabbing himself in the heart.

Chapter 9- Evertt Ruess went to the South East near Colorado. He was originaly born in Oakland, Ca in 1914. He attended the Otis Art school and Hollywood High. At 16, in 1930, he trecked through Yosemite and the Big Sur. He would later change his name to Nemo, like Chris did by changing his to Alex. He went to the Davis Gulch and was never found after that.
